c24t3P1: This lesion shows prominent Spitz qualities. The epidermis is hyperplastic. Nests and fascicles of cells extend from the dermal-epidermal interface, through a widened, focally edematous papillary dermis, into the reticular dermis among collagen bundles. The lesion is variably pigmented. Vessels of the papillary dermis are ectatic. Symmetry and maturation are  evident.

c24t3P2: At  this magnification, there is some degree of cellular pleomorphism in  both the epidermal and the dermal component.

c24t3P3: Some of the cells in junctional fascicles, and in the dermal component are plump; they have pulled away from their neighbors. These cells have enlarged, hyperchromatic nuclei. They are spindle shaped or dendritic in outline. There is maturation at the deep margin. Inflammation is minimal at the advancing margin.

c24t3P4: The cytologic features are atypical and pleomorphic. The cytoplasm of the atypical cells is uniformly and delicately pigmented. The character of the pigmentation is reminiscent of that seen in cells of classic SSM. One multinucleated giant cell is  represented.

c24t3P5: The papillary dermis is hyalinized and focally edematous. It is relatively free of inflammation.

c24t3P6: Pigmentation is a variable feature. Some of the vessels are ectatic. One cell of the lentiginous component is  monstrocellular.
