Fig. c6t3P17: In this cellular zone, angulated, clear areas represent zones of cytolysis. Some of the pale areas are interpreted as myxoid zones; in the myxoid areas, plump, round tumor cells are individually spaced in a fiber-poor matrix. A vessel to the left, near the bottom of the field, has a thickened fibrous wall.

Fig. c6t3P18: Distinctive swollen myxoblasts are prominent in this field. In areas, they are clustered. The background tumor is cellular. Some of the myxoblasts are multinucleated.

Fig. c6t3P19: Tumor cells are spindle-shaped to the right; centrally, the cells are swollen myxoblasts. The fully developed myxoblasts have dense chromatin patterns. A thick-walled vessel is represented to the left.

Fig. c6t3P20: With a little technical help, the mucinous qualities of the myxoblasts are accentuated.

Fig. c6t3P21: A mucicarmine stain shows mucicarminophilia of the cytoplasm of the myxoblasts.

Fig. c6t3P22: The cytoplasm of the plump, pale myxoblasts is mucicarminophilic.

Fig. c6t3P23: With an alcian blue stain, the myxoblasts contain positive material.

Fig. c6t3P24: A myxoblast to the right of the center of the field is multinucleated. Cells of this type might be mistakened for a touton giant cell.

Fig. c6t3P25: The cytoplasm of the myxoblasts is basophilic (myxoid).
