Melanoma (c27t3P2)

GENERAL INDEX

c27t3P1 (case 9, continued): The cells are plump and spindle shaped. There is nuclear pleomorphism. Nuclei show marginated chromatin with prominent, acidophilic nucleoli. Collagen bundles of the reticular dermis are entrapped among the fascicles of tumor cells.

c27t3P2: In this field, cells are more rounded (“epithelioid”) than spindle shaped. There are degenerative changes with lysis and death of individual cells and clusters of cells.

c27t3P3: There is a high degree of cytologic atypia with mitotic activity.

c27t3P4: This is apparently a Fontana-Masson stain; the pigment is argyrophilic.
