c19t3P2: The patterns are those of a common nevus with features of a small congenital nevus. The pattern of fibrosis in this area is a common feature of congenital nevi; I am uncertain as to whether this pattern is evidence of regression or maturation. |

c19t3P3: The pattern of the “common” nevus is represented on the right; in the area on the right, the lesion is polypoid and nevus cells are present in the dermis. The neighboring epidermis to the left is hyperplastic and shows widely, and irregularly, spaced basal clear cells (i.e., melanocytes). The papillary dermis is widened and fibrotic. There are clusters of heavily pigmented melanophages. |

c19t3P4: The widened papillary dermis is fibrotic and contains melanophages; the epidermis does not show significant lentiginous and junctional components. The patterns are compatible with focal regression. |

c19t3P6: In this field, patterns of regressionare associated with spotty lymphoid infiltrates. To the right, the lymphoid infiltrates have migrated into the basal layer of the epidermis to produce a lichenoid pattern. Click on “NEXT PAGE,” below. |
