Fig. c8t3P32:This is a fibrous zone in a lesion of adventitial myxofibroblastoma. To the left of the field, distinctive round cells are loosely clustered in a myxoid matrix. The cells somewhat resemble ganglion cells. Some of the cells have a peripheral zone of cytoplasm that is myxoid and spidery. There are hemosiderin deposits adjacent to the cluster of plump, round cells.

Fig. c8t3P33: In this field, the patterns are mostly fibrous, but there are loosely scattered, plump, round cells which have pale mucinous, and clear cytoplasm. Some of the distinctive cells are multinucleated.

Fig. c8t3P34: With a mucicarmine stain, the pale, round cells of Fig. c8t3P33 are muciparous (mucicarminophilic).

Fig. c8t3P35: With an alcian blue stain, the pale, round cells are intensely positive.

Fig. c8t3P36: Muciparous cells (myxoblasts) are clustered to the left of the center of the field. Some of the cells are associated with lytic defects; the patterns suggest that, in this field, lysis of muciparous cells contributes to the lytic defects. Some of the defects are perivascular.

Fig. c8t3P37: This field is representative of a myxoid zone. The cells are spindle and stellate in outline. They have round or oval nuclei. Many of the nuclei are vacuolated. Focally, some of the cells are arranged in whorls.

Fig. c8t3P38: To the left, the lesion is somewhat cellular. To the right, it is myxoid. In the myxoid zone, cells are thin and stellate in outline.

Fig. c8t3P39: In this field, plump tumor cells, many of which are rounded in outline, are loosely spaced in a myxoid matrix. Many of the nuclei are vacuolated.

Fig. c8t3P40: In this field, a portion of a typical lesion of the superficial type has infiltrated the reticular dermis; the infiltration was minimal and limited.
